Using the checklist
- Run through the list in your first planning meeting and delete anything that does not apply, or add your own items to your copy of the printout.
- Give every task a named owner. Tasks without an owner are the ones that are still open on go-live morning.
- Review the list weekly in the run-up to go-live and daily in the final two weeks.
- Use the RFP template earlier in the process to make sure the vendor commits to the implementation items above.
Frequently asked questions
How long before go-live should we start this checklist?
Start at contract signing. Data cleaning, training and testing all take longer than expected, and the governance items are cheapest to settle early.
Should we go live everywhere at once?
Many facilities launch in phases, for example outpatient and pharmacy first, then inpatient and finance. A phased launch limits risk but needs clear interfaces between old and new processes.
What if we are not ready on the planned date?
Move the date. A delay of a few weeks costs far less than a failed launch. Use the rollback criteria in the cutover phase to decide calmly rather than under pressure.

In your own browser only. It is not sent to us, and clearing your browser data will clear it.
